They were the big surprise of the German musical scene of the last two years: Sam (Sven Budja), Basti (Sebastian Raetzel) and Digger (Rüdiger Brans), are Berlin under 30 years old and together are the trio The Baseballs. They make covers of current hits in the Rockabilly style of the 50s and with their first album "Strike" conquered half of Europe. Today, their new CD "Strings 'n' Stripes" is being released and, for that reason, they will perform in Freiburg in July. Steffen Rüth talked with the three.

"We felt very cheated!"

Interview by Artur Schulz of German website Laut.de. Posted on Dezember 15, 2009

They are one of the surprises of 2009. Practically out of nowhere The Baseballs was celebrating the success of their Rockabilly-style album. And in a short time, due to the upcoming shows, we scheduled a meeting with The Baseballs. When I got to the concert hall Großer Freiheit 36 in Hamburg, the band was only available for video interviews and in their short free time had improvised a presentation to Capella.
Then the assessor arranged my meeting with Sam, Digger, and Basti. Far from the excitement that surrounds them a relaxed Digger, very correct and very cordial welcomes me with "Ah, Mr. Laut.de! Be cordially welcome! "-" So, you're apparently talking good things about us ... "-" Well, your album review was very good for us! "The three of them start laughing and we could go to a little place, far and quiet, to begin our conversation.

They became known in 2009 with their Rock 'n' Roll version of Rihanna's mega-hit 'Umbrella'. And known mainly abroad: their debut album "Strike" (2010) reached the number one position in Finland, Sweden, Norway and Belgium. Meanwhile, The Baseballs had two "Echos"[2] on the shelf, including "Best National Artist Abroad"[3]. And on March 13, Basti from Magdeburg, Sam from Reutlingen and Digger from Rheine want to be chosen to represent Germany on May 10 at the Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Copenhagen. We interviewed Basti, Digger, and Sam at the "Fabulous Route 66 Diner" restaurant.

Coke with... The Baseballs

A CONVERSATION WITH them is always fun, no matter when or where they are. But today, Basti, Sam and Digger are not in the Same room, not even in the Same town. We did a teleconference interview by phone. However, we had no few fun - even if from time to time one of the three of them stayed out of connection. Basti was about to cook a lasagna in his house, Digger sitting in front of a large box with screws and anchors was deciding between installing a new 6 or 8-pin lamp. Sam has a call through the car's hands-free system.
